Yesterday as my daughter was getting ready for school she came to me with shining eyes wearing a rainbow plastic necklace and matching bracelet. "Doesn't this look nice, Mom? I'm going to wear it to school!"
Uh, oh. I know my daughter, she's easily distracted and fidgety. That jewelry was going to get her into trouble if she wore it to school. "It does look nice, but I'm sorry baby, you can't wear it to school."
As you can imagine, she wasn't too happy about that. I explained my reasons. She
promised it wouldn't distract her.
All her friends wore jewelry to school. She would be
fine. I held my ground and she took the plastic necklace and bracelet off. Mommy knows best.
There's a spiritual lesson to be learned in this.
How often we think, "I need this," or "I'm going to do that," and "Things need to happen this way." We pray and God doesn't answer our prayers in the way we wanted. Things don't pan out in the way we expected, and we're upset because of it.
We don't know what's best. We want things that are going to distract us or get us into trouble. We want things to be easy. God doesn't always let us have our own way, and that's a good thing because we choose foolishly. But our Father, He knows best and what He gives is always exactly what we need.
