You Capture: Orange

What better orange thing to take photos of this time of year that pumpkins? Well, maybe some beautiful autumn leaves, but I live in Southern California. We generally have a delayed/nonexistent fall here, although this year, the leaves are already starting to change. Sometimes that doesn't happen until mid November or later here. Often I can't even buy pumpkins this early with out them rotting, so I have to find ways to improvise.

My garden is still producing, although not with the same rapidity. My cultivated wildflowers are still blooming too. But fall really is coming. The leaves on my peach tree are starting to turn. These pumpkins didn't come from my garden harvest though, they came from a store. Maybe we'll plant some next year. They take up a lot of room though.

These photos were a challenge to shoot. Sunny So. Cal. has been foggy, chilly, and rainy all week, so light in my studio* wasn't pouring through the eastern facing window like it usually does. On top of that, for a while I was using my Lensbaby macro which is not easy to focus properly. I wanted the aperture at 16, which of  course, means that I'm going to need a lot of light to get a clear picture. I'm happy to say that I was able to get several shots that I was pleased with.

Besides the macro shots, which are featured in the second collage, all the other pictures were taken with our Nifty Fifty (fixed 50mm 1.8). That is my favorite lens. I'm most comfortable with it and love the beautiful, blurry backgrounds it can create.

Old books and pumpkins just seem to go together. I really love these last two shots. I'm always pleased with how my photos turn out when I use old books as props. I should do it more often, as I certainly don't have shortage of those!

"You crown the year with a bountiful harvest; even the hard pathways overflow with abundance."
Psalm 65:11

Well, yeah, I'm going to be a sucker for all of these due to my lifelong love affair with the little orange round things. These are great and I love the unexpected spots for the last two - almost like they are hiding. LOVE!

Lots of orange. I really like all your photos. My favorite, I think, is the 1st collage. I really like the top perspective and the one where the pumpkins are all lined up.

Fall has not really arrived here in the desert either. I love the little collage of pumpkin photos. I am into everything pumpkin this year - my latest addition being pumpkin gelato.
